Laser IPL
We often ask ourselves the question: is it a good idea to start laser hair removal in the summer, especially in June?
The answer is yes… but with a few adjustments.
With the summer season, sun exposure, tanning, and heat can indeed increase the risk of burns or hyperpigmentation if sessions are poorly planned. That is why freshly tanned skin is always avoided for treatment. But that does not mean you have to stop everything or wait until fall.
In reality, it is absolutely possible to start or continue laser hair removal sessions in the summer, as long as sun exposure is properly managed and the treated areas are adapted.
Some areas are particularly easy to treat even during the sunniest months.
The underarms, for example, are very rarely exposed to the sun. They therefore remain an ideal area to continue treatments without any particular constraints.
For the bikini, the treated area can simply be adapted. Everything inside the swimsuit, such as the top of the pubic area, the labia, or the intergluteal area, remains protected from the sun. This makes it possible to continue sessions without any issue, even in the middle of summer.
It is an excellent way to avoid interrupting your treatment plan while respecting skin safety.
For more exposed areas such as the legs, arms, or face, you simply need to be a bit more strategic.
Tanned skin contains more melanin, which can interfere with the treatment and increase the risk of side effects such as burns, redness, or pigmentation spots. That is why it is important to carefully manage sun exposure.
For lighter phototypes, it is generally recommended to avoid the sun for about two to three weeks before a session. For darker phototypes, three to four weeks without direct exposure is preferred.
The use of SPF 50+ sun protection is essential, as well as avoiding tanning beds or self-tanners. Most importantly, it is very important to inform your technician about your sun habits so they can adjust the parameters safely.
In some cases, if an area is too exposed, it can simply be paused for the summer and resumed in the fall, while continuing other areas such as the bikini or underarms.
People often think they need to wait until fall to start, but in reality, June is a very good time to begin.
A laser hair removal protocol typically requires at least around ten sessions. By starting now, you get ahead for the following year. As a result, by next summer, you can already be almost hair-free, with significantly reduced regrowth that is finer and much less restrictive.
Even during summer, the first results are visible quickly. Hair grows back more slowly, becomes finer, and daily comfort is already improved.
Laser hair removal in summer is possible, realistic, and even strategic… as long as it is well managed.
Everything comes down to adaptation: choosing the right areas, managing sun exposure, and following recommendations. With a professional approach, it is absolutely possible to continue treatments safely during the summer season.
